Today in God’s Word
Numbers 9; Psalm 45; Song of Solomon 7; Hebrews 7
“23 The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:23–25, ESV)
In chapter 7 of Hebrews we have this great statement about our Savior’s ability to save us to the uttermost. He intercedes for me as he did for Peter (Luke 22:31-32)! We shall be saved when we live in union with Christ because he lives (John 14:19)! The resurrection is key. Our savior lives and it is by his life that I am sustained (Rom 5:9-10). His death paid for my sins but it his resurrection that evidenced my legal justification and that sustains me this day (Rom 4:24-25). His ascension and his presence at the right hand of the Father is my current confidence to get through the day (Rom 8:34ff). Let us remember the cross as the foundation of mercy but our eyes should be to our king in heaven in whom our life is hidden (Col 3:1-4).
Soli Deo Gloria!
