Today in God’s Word
Numbers 12-13; Psalm 49; Isaiah 2; Hebrews 10
In Hebrews chapter 10 the writer makes an argument for necessary sanctification (i.e., progression in personal holiness is a reality for the believer, not merely a possibility). Our perseverance is not one in title only but in substance. This is because it has been accomplished already by Christ…
“14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14, ESV)
This gives me a great promise and hope as I face my failures and as I strive toward the goal in the upward call of Christ Jesus. He is faithful to accomplish this work in me (Phil 1:6; 1 Thess 5:23-24)! But it also gives me a heart check because it clearly makes the point that the ones whom he has perfected are the one who are “being sanctified”. So my active sanctification is evidence of my already accomplished perfection.
Let us walk in the light and enjoy the process of becoming what we are!
Soli Deo Gloria!
