Today in God’s Word
Numbers 29; Psalm 73; Isaiah 21; 2 Peter 2
“16 But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task, 17 until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.” (Psalm 73:16–17, ESV)
Asaph gives us a Psalm of confession where he lays his heart open for us to see. Confessing his sinful attitude and thoughts as he watched the wicked prosper, he teaches us about repentance. To understand the situation and to understand his own heart did not require research on the situation of the wicked or hours of self contemplation…nope. It took coming into the sanctuary of God and seeking his Creator. Asaph saw the prospect of straightening his thoughts out as wearisome until he realized that he merely needed to seek the LORD!
Paul teaches us something similar in Romans 6…
“13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” (Romans 6:13, ESV)
Notice that the answer, before trying to put on a new working, was to present one’s self to God. May we come to the sanctuary of our God each day with grateful hearts, as children who have been raised from the dead with Christ, and seek his face! May we have hearts that say to God as Asaph did…
“25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:25–26, ESV)
Soli Deo Gloria!
