Today in God’s Word
2 Samuel 15; 2 Corinthians 8; Ezekiel 22; Psalm 69
In Psalm 69 is a lesson in assurance for us all. I have told my children that heaven is the place for people who love Jesus and hell is the place for people who don’t.
“35 For God will save Zion and build up the cities of Judah, and people shall dwell there and possess it; 36 the offspring of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall dwell in it.” (Psalm 69:35–36, ESV)
Do we have a love for Jesus or only a belief in him? Is our savior precious to us or simply a truth to us? Do we treasure Jesus more than anything life can give us or death can take from us? Is Jesus a real person whom we are in love with or is he an idea that we agree with?
How do we express our love to him? How do we walk with our savior? How do we make ourselves known to him? How do we know him and hear him?
May we not fail to live in communion with God out of a shallow belief in truths when we are actually called to loving surrender to our brother, our king, our God.
Soli Deo Gloria!
